小熊超級新秀布萊恩(Kris Bryant)春訓表現亮眼，28日被告知開季得從小聯盟出發。29日與洛磯熱身賽猛敲4安打來回應。
布萊恩今年春訓37打數17支安打，貢獻15分打點，打擊率4成59，轟出9發全壘打也是春訓最多。
雖有如此優異的成績，但小熊總經理艾普斯坦(Theo Epstein)依然不讓布萊恩登上大聯盟，希望他能在小聯盟繼續磨練。
艾普斯坦說：「我不會讓沒大聯盟經驗的球員在開幕日就入選25人名單，我認為應該是要讓他們在小聯盟維持狀況，然後在他們能成功的時刻拉上大聯盟。」他認為布萊恩是小熊未來基石，必須要慎重培養。
「為什我不能上大聯盟？」布萊恩說，「我做得很好，我來到春訓時就決定，要讓他們看到我可以做到，我已經準備好了。」
小熊29日2連戰，與遊騎兵熱身賽靠著先發投手阿列塔(Jake Arrieta)投打都有驚人演出，主投4局5次三振無失分，打擊方面則是3打數2安打包括1發全壘打，貢獻4分打點，搭配布萊恩5打數4安打的加持，終場18比4大勝。
另一場與紅人的比賽，旅美小將陳品捷六局上獲得代打機會，獲得保送上壘，目前熱身賽2打數1安打。小熊5比9不敵紅人。
